Team Story:
Our team, “It All Adds Up!”, is running for our daughter, and Hip Hop 5K/10K founder, Emily who was diagnosed with hip dysplasia in her late teens.  After many years of physical therapy and no answers or solution Emily was finally diagnosed as a complex hip dysplasia case. Soon after being diagnosed, she went through multiple reconstructive surgeries over 6 years to reconstruct her hips using her own bone.  She has worked with experts at Lahey Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Mayo Clinic in Minnesota as well as specialist at the top their fields.  She has had mixed results.  One hip was successfully reconstructed, but the other had complications and she is still unable to walk without the aid of crutches and a KAFO assist.

They are working to find a solution, but a lot more work still needs to be done. Not letting adversity get the best of her, Emily, with endless courage and tenacity, founded the Hip Hop 5k/10k in 2013.  In the first 4 years the Hip Hop has raised over $90,000 for seed money in hip research to develop alternative procedures to correct hip dysplasia and to find methods to better diagnosis the condition earlier in life. The race also strives to help families of children dealing with the hip dysplasia, as well as adults with the diagnosis and treatment process in an effort to curb many of the physical and mental stresses that Emily and many other patients and their families have endured. This year all money raised will go to benefit the hip research program at Boston Children’s Hospital.

We ask for your support in this worthy cause.  If you can, we’d love to have you join our team, “It All Adds Up!” on August 25th or you can make a donation to help support our team to raise over $5,000.  We’d like to thank you for your time and support and hope see you on race day!
